Position Overview

QuaLife Biotech is seeking a Downstream Processing Scientist with a specialization in protein purification. The ideal candidate will significantly contribute to developing and optimizing purification processes for recombinant proteins to achieve high yield, purity, and quality. This position is hands-on, requiring substantial expertise in downstream techniques and close collaboration with various teams within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

🔹 Develop and Optimize Purification Protocols

Design, execute, and refine purification protocols for target proteins.

Techniques include chromatography (such as affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion), tangential flow filtration, and ultrafiltration.

Aim for protocols that consistently deliver high yield, purity, and reproducibility.

🔹 Process Scale-Up

Scale purification processes from bench to pilot and manufacturing scales.

Ensure efficiency, reproducibility, and quality compliance with GMP standards during scale-up.

Collaborate with manufacturing teams for seamless integration into larger processes.

🔹 Analytical Characterization

Conduct thorough protein analysis to evaluate purity, yield, and activity of purified proteins.

Techniques include SDS-PAGE, HPLC, SEC, and various spectroscopic methods.

🔹 Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of all processes and outcomes.

Prepare SOPs, technical reports, and other essential documentation to support regulatory submissions (CMC documentation).

🔹 Technology Transfer

Assist in tech transfer activities by preparing essential documentation and training manufacturing teams for successful large-scale implementation.

Ensure smooth knowledge transfer from R&D to production teams.

🔹 Other Duties

Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to support broader company objectives.

Required Qualifications

🎓 Education

Master’s or Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.

💼 Experience

For Ph.D. holders: Minimum 4+ years of relevant industry experience in protein purification and downstream process development.

For Master’s degree holders: Minimum 8+ years of relevant industry experience.

🧪 Technical Skills

Hands-on expertise in chromatography techniques, including affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.

Proficient in filtration, protein concentration methods, and analytical characterization of proteins.

📋 Regulatory Knowledge

Familiarity with GMP/GLP standards and regulatory requirements in the bioprocessing industry.

Preferred Skills

🔧 Automated Purification Systems

Experience with automated systems like ÄKTA is highly desirable.

📊 Process Optimization

Knowledge of design of experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis for process optimization.

🌐 Technology Transfer & Manufacturing

Experience in technology transfer and working within a manufacturing environment.
